De Stichting Downsyndroom (SDS) werd in maart 1988 opgericht op initiatief van een aantal ouders met jonge kinderen met die conditie. Zij wilden daarmee de leemte in de informatievoorziening over het syndroom en alles wat daarmee samenhangt opvullen.
